The Importance of Getting Your Car Diagnosed

Your car’s check-engine light is often the first sign that something is wrong. Taking your car for an inspection is the best way to prevent a small repair from becoming a major expense.

Your car is run by a computer that is constantly monitoring the complex interactions between your engine and other components. When a part begins to malfunction, the computer will trigger a warning light on the dashboard, often the check-engine light. It does so with a specific code that corresponds to each part of your engine.

At the auto repair shop, your technician will read the triggered code and use that information to inspect the part of your vehicle that may have a problem. Once the technician is able to identify the issue, they will reset the light.

After the technician has successfully run diagnostics and identified the issue, they will go over the information with you and recommend a solution — usually, repairing or replacing the problem parts. It’s incredibly important to take your car to be inspected at the first sign of trouble — whether that’s a check-engine light, compromised performance or an odd sound or smell. This allows you to address problems before they become expensive headaches.

No one wants to deal with the stress of a check engine light, but putting off services will cost you more in the long run. Many problems, like worn brakes or degrading belts, progress slowly over time. By taking your car in for an inspection as soon as something seems off, you’ll not only save time and money, you’ll also help extend the life of your car.
